Terms of Use
The short version
- Owners can always claim their property directly from the government agency, for free. We charge a fee only under an agreement you sign.
- Cornerstone Pro gives members public-record lead data to help owners recover their money, and for nothing else.
- Members follow their state's finder laws, fee caps, licensing rules and calling and email laws.
- Memberships renew monthly until you cancel, and you can cancel any time from your account.
- California law applies.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Modern Media LLC, d/b/a Cornerstone Asset Recovery ("Cornerstone," "we," "us"). By using cornerstoneassets.io, app.cornerstoneassets.io or any of our services, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use our services.
Some services come with their own signed agreement, such as our Finder's Fee Agreement for owners or our Partner Agreement. If that agreement conflicts with these terms, the signed agreement controls.
2. Our services
- Claim assistance (cornerstoneassets.io): we help people find and recover unclaimed property and surplus funds held by government agencies.
- Cornerstone Pro (app.cornerstoneassets.io): a subscription service for asset-recovery professionals ("members"). It provides lead data from public records, a map, a lead pipeline, agreement and signature tools, filing guides, scripts and training.
We are a private company. We are not a government agency, a law firm or a financial adviser, and nothing on our sites is legal, tax or financial advice.
3. Who can use them
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a binding contract. A parent, guardian, heir or authorized representative may use our claim services on behalf of an owner if they have the legal authority to do so. Cornerstone Pro is for use in the United States.
4. Claim assistance for owners
- You can always claim for free. Unclaimed property and surplus funds can be claimed directly from the holding agency at no cost, without us.
- Fees. We charge a fee only under a Finder's Fee Agreement you sign. That agreement sets the fee, when it's due, your cancellation rights and its other terms. We never charge you before you receive your funds.
- No guarantee. The agency decides every claim. We can't promise a claim will be approved, how much will be paid or how long it will take.
- Accurate information. You agree that the information and documents you give us are true and complete, and that you're entitled to claim the property or act for the person who is.
5. Cornerstone Pro accounts
- Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep it current.
- Keep your password private. You're responsible for activity on your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has used it.
- An account, and each seat on an Agency plan, is for one person. Don't share logins.
- Agency plans may use their own branding on the platform and agreements. The Agency member is responsible for its seat holders' use.
6. Memberships and billing
- Plans. Plan features, monthly unlocks, holds and prices are shown on our pricing page. The free plan costs nothing and needs no card.
- Automatic renewal. Paid memberships are billed monthly in advance through Stripe and renew automatically each month until you cancel. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method each month.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time from Account in the app, or by emailing us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing month, and you keep access until then.
- Refunds. Payments are non-refundable, and we don't give refunds or credits for partial months or unused unlocks, except where the law requires them.
- Price changes. We may change prices. We'll tell you by email at least 30 days before a change applies to your membership, and you can cancel before it takes effect. A founding price stays the same for as long as that membership stays active without a break.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails, we may pause paid features until it's fixed.
- Taxes. Prices don't include any taxes that may apply.
7. How members may use lead data
Lead data comes from public government records. You may use it only to help owners, their heirs or representatives recover property that belongs to them, following the laws of the state where the property is held. You may not:
- use it to decide anyone's eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing or any other purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Cornerstone Pro is not a consumer reporting agency, and lead data is not a consumer report;
- use it to harass, threaten, stalk or intimidate anyone, or to commit fraud;
- tell an owner, or suggest, that they must pay anyone to recover their property, or hide that they can claim it free;
- pretend to be, or to work for, a government agency;
- charge fees above a state's legal cap, or before the owner receives funds where the law forbids it;
- sell, publish, share or give lead data to anyone outside your own account, except as needed to work a claim with that owner;
- scrape, bulk-download or copy the platform's data beyond the exports we provide, or use it to build a competing product.
When an owner asks you to stop contacting them, stop, and mark the lead accordingly.
8. Members' legal responsibilities
- Finder laws. You're responsible for following each state's rules on finders and investigators, including registration or licensing, waiting periods, fee caps and required disclosures. Some states restrict who may work these claims. The rules shown on each lead are a starting point, not legal advice.
- Contact laws. You're responsible for following the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the National Do Not Call Registry and state calling and texting laws, the CAN-SPAM Act and any other law that applies to how you contact people.
- Your agreements. Agreements you send through Cornerstone Pro are between you and the owner. Cornerstone isn't a party to them and only hosts the document and the signature record. You're responsible for their terms and for meeting them.
- Independent business. You work for yourself, not for Cornerstone. Don't present yourself as our employee or agent.
- Data you add. You're responsible for contact details, notes and other information you add or look up, including through your own accounts with third-party lookup services.
9. Accuracy of data
Public records can be out of date, incomplete or wrong, and a claim may be paid to someone else before the record changes. We refresh our data regularly but don't guarantee that any lead is accurate, still unclaimed or that it will result in a recovery or a fee. Results depend on your own work. We may correct, hold back or remove leads at any time, including when an owner asks us to remove their record.
10. Partner program
Partners who promote Cornerstone Pro for a commission are covered by the Partner Agreement they sign, including its rules on disclosing that they're paid and on making no income claims.
11. Acceptable use
Don't use our services to:
- break any law or anyone's rights;
- give false information, file a claim you aren't entitled to, or use someone else's identity;
- upload malware or anything harmful, or try to break, overload or get around our security, limits or access controls;
- access accounts or data that aren't yours;
- use bots, scrapers or automated tools except the features we provide.
12. Our content and your content
Our sites, software, training videos, scripts, templates, designs and brand are owned by Cornerstone or our licensors. While you follow these terms, we give you a personal, non-transferable right to use them for their intended purpose. Members may use our scripts and templates in their own claim work, but may not resell or republish them.
You keep ownership of information and documents you give us. You let us use them to provide and improve our services as described in our Privacy Policy. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
13. Third-party services
Our services link to or work with services we don't control, such as government claim sites, Stripe, e-signature providers and contact lookup services. Their own terms and privacy policies apply, and we aren't responsible for them.
14. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or close an account, remove access to data, or refuse service if someone breaks these terms, misuses lead data, creates legal risk or harms others. If we close a paid account without a breach on your part, we'll refund the unused part of the current month. You can stop using our services and close your account at any time. Sections 7 to 9 and 12 to 20 continue after your account ends.
15. Disclaimers
Our services are provided "as is" and "as available." To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise that our services will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any claim, lead or business will succeed.
16. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Cornerstone won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or business opportunities. Our total liability for any claim about our services is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and $100. For claim-assistance clients, the limit in your Finder's Fee Agreement applies instead. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
17. Indemnity
If you're a Cornerstone Pro member or partner, you'll defend and cover Cornerstone against claims, losses and reasonable legal fees arising from your use of lead data, your contact with owners, your agreements with owners, or your breach of these terms or the law.
18. Governing law and disputes
California law governs these terms, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be decided in the state or federal courts in Los Angeles County, California, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. Before filing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it informally.
19. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the effective date at the top. For significant changes, we'll notify Cornerstone Pro members by email or in the app at least 14 days before they apply. Continuing to use our services after that means you accept the new terms. Changes don't affect agreements you've already signed.
20. General terms
- These terms, our Privacy Policy and any signed agreement are the whole agreement between us about our services.
- If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't waived it.
- You can't transfer these terms without our consent. We may transfer them as part of a merger or sale of our business.
- We aren't responsible for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control.
- California consumers: the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs can be reached in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by phone at (800) 952-5210.
